Reiki:  Energy for Peace and Healing

Imagine feeling calm, relaxed, peaceful, and balanced – then bringing this sense of well being back to your world and being more productive, creative, and effective. Reiki (pronounced ray key) can allow this experience to be part of your everyday life. Reiki means “universal life energy”. Many cultures consider this energy or life force, often referred to as ki or chi, critical to health and well being.

Your life force is measurable as electrical frequency. A healthy body has a frequency from 62 to 78 hertz. Disease results when your body vibrates at a lower frequency. When your vibration lowers to 58 hertz, cold symptoms appear. Cancer manifests at 42 hertz and death begins at 25 hertz. 

We are beginning to recognize the impact of diet, lifestyle, and environment on health. Foods, stress, and toxins can raise or lower your frequency. Similarly your thoughts and feelings create energy that also affects your physical body. Negative thoughts lower while positive thoughts increase your vibration. Repetitive negative thoughts and feelings can contribute to the development of chronic and degenerative illnesses.

Healing requires a wholistic approach, addressing the mental, emotional, and spiritual as well as physical components of the illness. Reiki addresses all of these areas, regardless of which contribute to the disease process. By providing pure life energy to raise your body’s frequency, Reiki supports and accelerates the healing process. It strengthens the immune system, rebuilds tissue and bone, regenerates organs, and reduces and relieves chronic and acute pain. For example, Reiki is used with dental extractions, lupus, cancer, and AIDS.

In restoring your body’s energy to a higher frequency, Reiki releases the patterns that created the illness. By releasing these blocks, your life force and energy flow freely, allowing shifts in thought patterns and deep emotional releases. Reiki produces a profound sense of well being, calmness, and relaxation, increasing patience, understanding, and empathy.

What happens to create this feeling of well being? A Reiki practitioner raises and balances your body’s energy by lightly placing their hands on various positions on your body. The Reiki practitioner acts as a conduit, drawing in this universal life energy and transferring it to you through their hands. You generally lie fully clothed on a massage table to receive a Reiki treatment. While a full treatment lasts 45 minutes, you can receive benefits from shorter sessions. In receiving a Reiki treatment, you may feel warmth, tingling, or pulsing waves under the practitioner’s hands.  Scientists have photographed these streams of energy transferring from the practitioner’s hands to the recipient.

Describing Reiki cannot do it justice. Our conscious minds analyze and interpret  information to fit it with our prior experiences. Experiencing Reiki is the best introduction since your experience can take you beyond what your mind can comprehend or explain. You can receive a full treatment with a Reiki practitioner or attend an introductory group session where you receive a mini 5-10 minute treatment and learn about Reiki.

There are more than 500,000 Reiki practitioners worldwide. You can easily learn to do Reiki to support family and friends, augmenting their medical treatment.  Classes are taught by Reiki masters. Practitioners and teachers vary in their experience and expertise. There are three levels of Reiki training, with each level increasing the flow and frequency of energy. Select an experienced practitioner with whom you feel comfortable and safe. Then experience it yourself to discover how Reiki can bring healing energy, peace, and well being to your life.
